Swimmer's Body Illusion
Thinking about this some more, there is a good example with cosmetics. If you think a cosmetic will make you beautiful, then you have been hooked by the swimmers body illusion. The models they use to advertise cosmetics were already beautiful. The cosmetics simply gild the lily.
Another nasty deception are those adverts for diet programmes, exercise machines and some new-fangled gadget that will carve off those love handles.
Most of those before and after photos are rigged. They take a ripped dude, feed him icecream for a week and get him to pose badly. It is important too that the before photo shows no smile. Then he goes back to the gym, drops to his usual 10% body fat, a bit of fake tan, good lights and a beaming smile. He might never have used that machine or product at all.
Olympic Swimmers don’t get their spartan bodies by swimming. They were born with athletic, streamlined , size 14 footed freakish bodies to become Olympic swimmers.
